What are we commissioning?
We are looking to commission an individual organisation or a consortium of organisations to deliver the Non-Financial Support (NFS) activities for the Mombasa Plastics Prize (MPP) Incubator, specifically around organisations with expertise in supporting early stage businesses in developing working prototypes into sustainable startup businesses.
The successful bidder should demonstrate passion about innovation, experience in accelerator/incubator environments and offer a creative approach to deliver social impact through harnessing the power of entrepreneurship. They will bring experience of collaborating with a diverse range of innovators who are delivering solutions to real-world problems, demonstrating deep connections within local innovator networks. They will have a footprint across Mombasa County in Kenya. The ITT is for work over a 6-month period from October 2023 to March 2024.

Background to the Programme
The Mombasa Plastics Prize (MPP) Incubator aims to reduce marine plastics waste in Mombasa County by driving the development of youth-led sustainable businesses.
Between September 2022 and May 2023, the Mombasa Plastics Prize incentivized aspiring young entrepreneurs (aged 18-25) to develop solutions tackling marine plastic waste within Mombasa County’s informal settlements. The initial phase was an overwhelming success, where we saw the creation of 14 teams who crafted working prototypes and inspired communities across the county.
The MPP Incubator will build on the success of the initial phase, by working with a few of the highest potential teams from MPP to progress their prototypes into sustainable businesses. As part of the MPP Incubator, these teams will receive financial and non-financial support. The MPP Incubator also aims to continue inspiring residents across Mombasa County to reduce plastic waste, whilst also benefiting from the creation of new jobs.
